Trans World Airlines (TWA) was a major American airline that operated from 1930 until its merger with American Airlines in 2001. Originally founded as Transcontinental & Western Air, TWA played a significant role in the development of commercial aviation, becoming one of the most recognized international airlines. Known for its luxurious service and iconic branding, TWA was a pioneer in transcontinental and transatlantic flights. The airline's distinctive red and white logo and terminals, such as the TWA Flight Center at JFK Airport designed by Eero Saarinen, became symbols of the golden age of air travel. Despite its early success, financial struggles and competition led to its eventual merger with American Airlines. TWA remains a nostalgic emblem of mid-20th-century aviation.
