American Motors Corporation (AMC) was an American automobile manufacturer formed in 1954 through the merger of Nash-Kelvinator Corporation and Hudson Motor Car Company, making it the largest corporate merger in U.S. history at the time. Based in Southfield, Michigan, AMC was known for its innovative designs, compact cars, and commitment to economy and efficiency. Iconic models such as the AMC Rambler, Gremlin, and Jeep series highlighted its appeal to practical, budget-conscious consumers. Despite its innovation, AMC struggled to compete with larger automakers and was eventually acquired by Chrysler in 1987.
