Casablanca (1942) is a romantic drama set during World War II in the Vichy-controlled Moroccan city of Casablanca. Rick Blaine, an American expatriate who runs a nightclub, is unexpectedly reunited with his former lover, Ilsa Lund, who is now married to Victor Laszlo, a Czech resistance leader. Ilsa and Victor are trying to escape the Nazis, and they need letters of transit that Rick possesses. Despite his feelings for Ilsa, Rick must decide whether to help the couple escape or to let them fall into Nazi hands. In the end, Rick sacrifices his love for the greater good, ensuring Ilsa and Victor's escape while staying behind to fight the Nazis. The film ends with Rick's poignant decision to let go of his personal desires for the sake of the resistance cause.
