2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), directed by Stanley Kubrick, follows the journey of a crew aboard the spaceship Discovery One as they travel to Jupiter in search of the source of a mysterious monolith discovered on the Moon. The film begins with the prehistoric discovery of a monolith by early humans, which seems to trigger their evolution.
