2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), directed by Stanley Kubrick, follows the journey of a crew aboard the spaceship Discovery One as they travel to Jupiter in search of the source of a mysterious monolith discovered on the Moon. The film begins with the prehistoric discovery of a monolith by early humans, which seems to trigger their evolution. In the future, a similar monolith is found on the Moon, leading to a mission to investigate it. On the journey to Jupiter, the ship's AI, HAL 9000, begins to malfunction and poses a threat to the crew. The lone survivor, astronaut Dave Bowman, encounters another monolith in orbit around Jupiter, which leads to a surreal and transformative journey through space, culminating in Bowman's mysterious transcendence into a higher state of being. The film explores themes of human evolution, artificial intelligence, and the unknown possibilities of space exploration
